We are a group of concerned citizens and members of the Pflugerville Firefighters Association that are working to educate the community about the effort to defund the fire department through positive interaction and community engagement.
In this year's election, we determine the future of public safety. As neighbors, we care about the health and safety of our community. As supporters of our first responders, we’ve come to understand – and hope to be a source of information on – the complex issues at stake in this election. Sadly, misinformation is abundant in the campaign to defund the Fire Department, so here are some facts and resources you will need to make an informed decision on election day
Cutting 30-40% of your Fire Department's budget will result in laying off firefighters, closing stations, increased call times and increasing property taxes and insurance rates.
And it’s currently a cost-efficient and smart use of our tax dollars.
A special interest group, Pflugerville Residents for Responsible Taxation is funded by two wealthy land developers who do not understand the business of public safety and public safety funding.
This small vocal group is saying that the Pflugerville Fire Department "abandoned the citizens" by pulling out ambulance transport. This is FALSE. Their goal: to erode public trust of the Fire Department with false narratives.
After the special interest group convinced citizens that paying for ambulance transport was a "double tax," the City of Pflugerville decided to use a for-profit ambulance service. Currently, the city is paying $1.4 million every year for this contract.
In hopes of providing the taxpayers a better deal, the Pflugerville Fire Department proposed providing ambulance transport at $1.9 million per year in 2024, with Travis County committed to pay the difference. This means it would have cost the city NOTHING MORE to provide high quality ambulance for Pflugerville residents.
Unfortunately, in a 4-3 vote, the City Council chose a for-profit EMS service that has received a number of complaints and was negligent on one call in 2022 that cost one of our residents his life.
The Pflugerville Fire Department has been transparent and holds transparency stars from the state comptroller's office. There are no secrets.
Come out to an event to support your firefighters and learn more about the issues that impact you and your family!
Get out the vote and put down the defund!
